I recently underwent extensive bloodwork which revealed that my body is in a state of extreme burnout.  This burnout is the result of two back surgeries and the major trauma they caused to my body (and my mind).  My doctor was surprised that I feel as good as I do and I’m not experiencing worse symptoms.  We both credit this to the fact that I embody the mindfulness techniques that I coach my clients on as a Dallas Life Coach and that I have a strong routine around my daily calm practices.

The reality is that we are all going to experience traumatic and stressful experiences throughout our lives.  Experiencing a major health event, going through a divorce, navigating a toxic work environment and feeling burned out from the pressures of life, among many other things, can create a lot of anxiety, stress and burnout in our lives.

As a Dallas stress management coach and North Texas mindfulness expert (click HERE to watch some of my recent segments from Good Morning Texas), I help my clients dive deep into their lives and mindsets so that they can shift into lasting, positive change.

Here are some of my mindfulness techniques and daily calm practices to help with anxiety reduction, emotional regulation and resilience building.

Daily Calm Practices

  1. Don’t start your morning off in reactive mode.  This means don’t open your email immediately upon waking up, turn on the news or do anything that could send you into a reactive, anxious state.  Instead, start your day with a peaceful morning routine.  This can be a short as a couple of minutes or as long as you like.  Trust me as a stress coach in Dallas I’ve worked with a lot of burned out people, and starting your day off in a reactive mode is one of the fastest ways for your anxiety to take you down.
  2. Just because someone posts it doesn’t mean you have to read it.  Social media can be a stressful place.  If there are people you follow whose polarizing posts spike your blood pressure, mute them.  I recently muted everyone on my social feed who posts anything political, even if I agree with it, because I don’t find anything positive in consuming those posts.  My feed is so much happier!
  3. Set the vibe.  Make your home and workspace as calm as possible.  For me this means I frequently play coffee house jazz, always have a delightful scent flowing through my house and keep my space tidy and well decorated.  The energy around you drastically impacts your energy, so set a vibe that will serve you well.

Workplace Wellness

Corporate stress management in Dallas is a hot topic.  A lot of the stress relief coaching I do stems around stress in the workplace.  And believe me, I get it –  I spent 17 years in Corporate America feeling stressed and burned out.

Here are a few things you can do to up your workplace wellness:

  1. Start the day with something just for you.  When I was in Corporate America I had to wake up SO early, and I am not a morning person!  Rushing around to get ready only to battle traffic just made me more anxious, so I woke up 10 minutes earlier to mediate.  Those 10 minutes totally changed the energy of my day, and didn’t negatively impact my sleep.  Take at least 5-10 minutes at the start of your day and do something just for you.
  2. Sprinkle in peace. I always felt like I was running from one thing to the next, and with a work-from-home life it can be difficult to shift gears from work mode to relax mode.  Even the busiest professional can sprinkle in peace between tasks and between life activities.  Take 2 deep breaths, listen to one song while being fully present, and repeat a few positive affirmations.  Little sprinkles make a big difference.
  3. Get outside.  Take a quick lap around the building, eat lunch on a patio, just stand outside for 2 minutes.  It’s a powerful reset.
